Healdsburg is right by the Russian River Valley. Getting to many of these wineries, you’ll pass many entrances to enter the Russian River. This is a perfect area to have a picnic! Grab something to go from Healdsburg (Oakville Grocery, Sheldon’s or any of the burrito places!) and bring it to the Russian River. SSS’s favorite entrance is the one on Eastside Road, on the across from Copain wines — where Ballard turns into River Regional Park Driveway on Eastside Road.
Healdsburg is a small town that is completely walkable. Healdsburg closes early so be sure you have dinner plans set by 8:30p. There are many wineries within the town which will have more of a wine bar feel, but a great option to avoid driving. As a rule of thumb, most wineries close around 5:00pm and sometimes the town wineries will be open until 7:00p or so.
When looking for wineries with beautiful, vast views, check out wineries on Eastside & Westside Road. In addition, Alexander Valley will have a ton of beautiful wineries.
Dining is on the finer and trendier end of things but the casual taquerias and local markets are not to be missed! Many times outside the local markets, there will be grilling for some of the most wine country local you could ever eat — especially a treat after tasting all day!
