Bodega Bay marks the start of the Sonoma Coast and it goes all the way up the coast along to Timber Cove. The drive from Bodega Bay to Timber Cove takes about an hour. If it’s a long day of road travel, 019 Wine can’t reccomend Bodega Bay Lodge enough. It’s the first stop and so peaceful and calming. It’s a different taste of the coast and a great experience. It’s alsoa great way to split up the trip if you want to explore the oyster beds in Marshall & Point Reyes. Bodega Bay Lodge is right by Sonoma Coast Vineyards, as well. Timber Cove is closer to Fort Ross Vineyards. If you are splitting up the trip, visit each accordingly.
If you are staying at the Lodge in Bodega Bay — the restaurant there is phenomenal. It is very easy to spend all your meals there — there are more places along Bodega Bay to explore but the Lodge has some of the most beautiful views with fantastic cuisine. The hot tub here is not to be missed and has an infinity view of Bodega Bay — not to mention, hot tubs and pools in Northern California in general are hard to come by!
There are not a lot of establishments along the 1, where the Sonoma Coast is located. As far as night drinks or cocktails, if you are staying at Timber Cove Resort, that is your best option. The cliffside roads are quite dark with hairpin turns that can be difficult to navigate at night. There are places near Bodega Bay that are easy to get to if you are staying at the Lodge (including Jenner River’s End), but if you are staying at Timber Cove Resort, your best bet is staying off the roads at night
The Sonoma Coast is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Enjoy every second and just take in the awe-inspiring views or even just the scent of the air there. Enjoy the disconnect & just get outside. Even if just taking a walk around the resort trails at Timber Cove, it’s easy to get lost in the sights for hours. There is no cell phone service and some places (even hotels!) don’t have internet. Both the Lodge and Timber Cove have Internet. That said, 019 Wine can’t urge you enough to take advantage of the disconnect. Take photos on airplane mode and update everything when you get home.
Sunsets are spectacular out here year round. That said, be sure to make reservations for sunset right away at any restaurant to ensure you have a great sunset view. When staying at Timber Cove, it’s also fun to get the food sent to your room to enjoy on the patio.
